The Groundkeepers' social initiative focuses on improving soil health by making sustainable methods for farming practices more accessible and practical for farmers. It began with a simple objective of bettering the understanding of the realities farmers face on the ground, and then to translate those insights into real and impactful interventions.
To build the initial understanding, Groundkeepers developed SiltSmart, through which we conducted a field survey in collaboration with the NGO Dream Future by engaging with farmers across the country. This study showed us the key aspects of agricultural sustainability, cropping patterns, seed quality, and fertilizer use, and gave us access to inputs, which would help us understand the broader economic contexts through which farmers are currently operating. This revealed the clear gaps in access to reliable and high-quality seeds for further sustainability, as well as a strong willingness among the farmers to adopt better practices if those barriers were truly reduced.
Building on the provided insights, Groundkeeprs launched SeedFund, a crowdfunding campaign on the website Milaap from March to April of 2026, raising AMOUNT to directly help support farmers with sustainable inputs. The funds are to be used to procure and distribute organic fertilizers, pesticides, and high-quality seeds to NUMBER farmers at the NGO, helping to enable a shift towards a more sustainable cultivation without adding to the financial burden. And through the development of SeedSmart in DATE, using the funds received through SeedFund, Groundkeepers organised a distribution drive to donate some organic pesticide and fertilizer to NUMBER of farmers in AREA to improve the soil quality on their farming land.
Alongside direct intervention, Groundkeepers undertook a detailed research into regional soil profiles, existing agricultural practices, and other comparable case studies to develop the Stronger Roots Recommendations Paper, which highlighted practical steps and evidence-based approaches to improve soil health, and even included regionally specific inputs for long-term restoration practices.
Lastly, as the initiative grew and evolved, it expanded beyond individual interventions to focus on building a broader ecosystem of support. This is what led to the creation of the Groundkeepers Alliance in June 2026, a pledge network of companies and organizations that are committed to sustainable agricultural practices, from the organic input usage to the adoption of agri-tech solutions.
